Chant of the Month AUM 3

‘A+U+M’=AUM, pronounced AUMMMM.

·        In  Mandookya Upanishad, it is not pronounced as OM. It is pronounced as AUM. However, originally it was written as ओम्. We can see this in Upanishads, Taittriya Aranyaka, Taittriya Samhita, Rig Veda Khila Bhaga, etc…

·        The sound should be pronounced as AUMMMMMMM and not as OMMMMMMMMM.

·        This is so, because the first sound, which is produced when you open your mouth without changing the shape of your lips is, AA,

·        Then next when you curve your lips, the sound that is produced is. U.

·        If thereafter you close your lips, the sound that is produced is. M.

·        Meditation experts say that the Sanskrit word 'Aum', over a period of time, has become 'Om'. And there's a science to back it up. Om is basically a monosyllabic word, as compared to Aum, which is tri-syllabic.
