Chant of the Month AUM 16

 Ohm evolved from the Tamil language

  • Technically we cannot create OhM by chanting, we only imitate a vibration sympathetic to the vibration that is already there.
  • It is not a chant made by us, created by us, or initiated by us. Rather, we establish a connection between ourselves and the Supreme Reality, which manifests itself as sound vibration in the form of Ohm.
  • Sometimes, if you even sit very quietly, you will hear the sound of Ohm, like a distant cosmic hum. Listen within you; it’s not outside you, it is you.
  • When your mind is quiet and you listen, you will hear a divine humming”.

Note;

Further to add, you need to understand some terminologies available in Tamil - related to various sounds. Our ancestors classified all the sounds created by nature with suitable names as ReenkAram (ரீங்காரம்).rīṅkāram ….ReengAram, AangAram, VoongAram, OngAram, etc,.

  • The continuous low noise was called as ReenkAram (ரீங்காரம்).rīṅkāram - Humming, as of bees & other insects. (வண்டு, தேனீ, பூச்சிகளின் ஒலி).
  • The loud & deep roaring sound of the sea was called as AangAram (ஆங்காரம்).
  • OongAram (ஊங்காரம்) is to utter or emit a full loud prolonged sound - like a horrifying hurricane sound. (ஊழிக்காற்று) and finally,
  • OngAram(ஓங்காரம்) /OhM... the loudest of all sounds; it is the sound of the Universe, the Cosmic hum which is present everywhere.
